Mountain Meadow Wonderland

We had heard from a friend that there was great river/stream fishing in a nearby wilderness. There are incredible meadows on the top of the mountain range at about 10,000 ft. Because of all the rain that New Mexico had received, this was another really green area.  Around every corner was a beautiful sight to see.

Our friend had told us where to specifically go to fish so we headed over there. We found a nice little spot to fish and could see a whole school of them. I did not have any luck with my worms and bait. The fish would have nothing to do with me :( but Stan was able to catch a few with his flies.

We had also been told that if we went much farther on that river it would get rather “punchy” and we of course had to learn for ourselves what that meant… We decided to keep heading down the river where it met up with another little one hoping the fishing would be better. Our plan was to then hike back along the second river because it went straight to our trailhead. Well for all wondering what “punchy” looks like, it looks like this:

Super steep canyon sides, tree trunks all over the place, few places to get through. This picture can hardly show what it was really like because it just a small snippet of it. We hiked through a good two miles of this “punchy” business. But when we came out of it, there was this beautiful meadow:

Stan fished some more and caught a couple more fish and I watched :) It was yet another beautiful adventure.
