Petroglyph Hunt

The first weekend in September we decided to go where no one else would be on a holiday weekend. The desert :) We had been to this place previously in search of some ruins and had come up empty handed (poor Jeff and Jessie!). We went a little farther on the trail this time and struck gold! ...well not literally, but we did see some amazing things:

We had trouble getting this kid to start hiking because he was so interested in a bug he found. He was following it everywhere, even between his legs :)

We started our hike on a Mesa...

And then headed down.

And down...Scott hiked for the first bit by himself but then it got pretty steep...and we wanted to walk a little faster than his cute little legs were taking us :)

We got down to the bottom by the river and found a nice tree to park under. The boys and I sat for a bit while Stan explored and I fed the boys. Scott then went and found Stan and they explored together for a bit

I had a cute company under the tree. He was just so happy to be out of the carrier.

This is old too...the Sandovals are one of the founding names in New Mexico. They have been here for a LONG time

As you've seen, most of what we had seen were petroglyphs but there were these ruins. You can see the room blocks

And someone has gathered these pottery sherds.

They took a break and I went and wandered for a bit :)

Sure is interesting stuff! We wish we knew what it all meant :)

Headed back up the steep mesa.

We are glad we found it! Now we just need to take Jeff and Jessie back with us so they can really see it :)
