A Real Snowshoe Adventure!

On the 21st of January we headed to the Sandia Crest with our friend Avram and a couple of his friends, sans children, for a true adventure! There had been quite a bit of snow accumulation on the top of the mountain and we went to take advantage of it. We drove with Avram in his nice heavy duty truck. As we climbed the mountain, we encountered some brave/unwise souls who tried taking sedans all the way. It took us a lot longer to get up the mountain because of these people, who all eventually had to turn around, but we finally made it to the top!

We got suited up and ready to go!

The view from the crest was amazing! The snow was so thick on the trees and a good 4 ft deep in other places.

Peek-a-boo!

Kiwanis cabin, built by the CCC a long time ago. They used to have a wooden cabin but it got ruined by wind and storms they finally built a stone one.
The snow/ice inside of the cabin walls was frozen sideways, probably from the wind
See it was really us under those masks
The windows on the cabin, the window frames are only those little metal bars you can see, the snow/ice build up was a couple inches deep!
Hiking back to our cars in the dark
This was such a fun adventure! Thankfully our babysitter was nice and stayed for an extra two hours so that we could have it. Playing out in the cold snow is fun every now and then :)
