Backcamping 2015

This year's backcamping trip was to the San Pedro Parks Wilderness area. As we have done in the past two years, we chose a camp spot and spent a couple days doing various hikes in the surrounding area.

As we tend to do sometimes, we got to the camp site just as it was getting dark, set up camp, cooked dinner, and got settled for the night. Thanks to Scott, we had no problem getting up at the crack of dawn to get a good start to the day.

Our destination the first day was to hike up to San Gregorio Reservoir and then past it to see what we could see. It was an easy hike to the reservoir and Scott and I set up a spot to enjoy the sun and snacks while Stan tried the reservoir for fish. We found some little friends that kept us very entertained:

Scott loved them, he was pretty good about sitting still for them, but any time they got super close, he tried to reach out and touch them and they ran away. They really wanted his crackers.

We hiked around the lake and then found a spot to have lunch. Scott loved playing with all the various wood (i.e. logs, large sticks)

We headed on our way further up the trail and Stan tried for some fish in a little river with not much luck there either :(

We decided to head back to camp early that afternoon and enjoy ourselves. I took a nap while Stan and Scott did a little walk nearby. Stan also took some time writing down all his ideas for projects. It was super relaxing and enjoyable.

Friday morning we woke up and headed on a hike in an area we have been before. (http://melssweetlife.blogspot.com/2013/10/mountain-meadow-wonderland.html) We loved it so much we've talked of going back and so we made it part of this trip. Because it was later in the season, it wasn't as green as before but it was still peaceful and beautiful. We were the only ones there.

It start to rain so we headed to the trees for a little cover. Thank goodness Scott was a trooper.

I asked him to show the camera what he had, he was happy to share.

And then Stan caught another one! This one was quite large for such a little river!

With some good fish caught, we decided to head back to camp again.

We loved that our camping spot had such a good field that was perfect for Scott to wander in and play. It made for a cute, happy camper :) (and this picture is my last favorite from the trip)

No camp trip is complete without s'mores.

The weather was so beautiful the whole weekend.

Saturday morning we packed up and headed on a drive/to see what we could see.

This old cabin was close to our camping spot and we had passed it every day. We decided to go take a look. There were some old beds and other things inside. Wonder who made it and why.

We ended up driving back to Cuba to get some gas and food, at my drive-in! Well it was called Mel's BBQ anyway. Then we headed back up north and decided to adventure into a part of the national forest we hadn't been too before. It was a fun road and it eventually led to this overlook:

It was a chill end to a great camping/hiking time. Stan was just having mercy on my pregnant body :) We also passed this sign a couple times and thought it was pretty fun:
