Petroglyph hunt

In August we went to a site west of Albuquerque with the neatest petroglyphs. We had heard of the site through a post we found on the internet and while we had been looking at a New Mexico tour groups stop spots. Sadly, we think we lost our camera on this trip and so we don't have all the pictures, but we do have some good ones:

Just a few minutes after we left home, I looked in my rearview mirror to see this. He had done it on his own.

We stopped for a few minutes at the ranger station and while Stan was inside, Scott was stomping around the parking lot killing ants. He would stomp on them and then try and find them. It was pretty funny, but I can't get the video to upload. :(

We got to our take out spot and headed on our way. This part of the trip was what was mostly captured on our lost camera...

We found a neat old homestead and the only picture we still have is of the outhouse, how pleasant.

Halfway to the petroglyphs we stopped to take a break under a tree. Scott was being super cool with my glasses on.

We knew we were getting close when we found some pottery, this piece was a neat checkerboard pattern.

Scott was SOOOO excited about the lizard that is on the wall behind him. He kept coming back to it.

And we found the wall! ...all we need now is a translator.

Stan headed to the top of the mesa to check out if there was anything up there, Scott and I stayed down below and pulled grass:

As we headed away from the petroglyphs we found some grinding stone spots.

This tree had a couple of woodpecker holes in it.

This meadow was out in front of the homestead.

As we headed back to the car we came across this bug, weirdest beetle I have ever seen

And these grasshoppers were all over the road. They were humongous!
