Memorial Day Outing

We didn't want to go where there would be a ton of people on Memorial Day (surprise, surprise), and we had been invited to a BBQ at my cousin's house in the east mountains, so we decided to go that way for the day and hit up Gallinas Mountains. The last time we had gone out there was when we were engaged and I had not yet moved to New Mexico. It was a perfect day and a beautiful drive!

We drove up to a lookout and climbed up those super steep stairs and there was even someone home!

She was super nice and took a family picture for us
It was a super windy day and on our way down the steep, scary stairs Scott's hat blew off into the wind! Luckily there was enough brush to stop his hat from falling too far. We continued on our drive and here are my boys:

I sat in the back for a bit to entertain Sterling. I sure love these two boys of mine
Scott loved his "Orange So-da"
We headed to my cousins for a BBQ, games, and bottle rocket fun! There are four of us second cousins that live here in the Albuquerque area and so it was fun to get together and have our kids play together. It reminded me of getting together with my Mom's cousins and their kids when I was young. Those are some of my favorite memories.

We had planned to make and take a bottle rocket with us but forgot in the rush of leaving that morning so we ended up borrowing things, bottle, tape, cardboard, and an apple for weight.

Stan's rocket shot SOOOOOO high in the air and when it came smashing down, the apple smashed with it. "Applesauce" as my cousin Dionne called it :) He won hands down :)

Scott loves his food :)
Dionne snapped this picture for us. I love it :)
It was a fun-filled day. We are grateful for those who have sacrificed so much so that we can have the freedoms we do and are able to live a life full of goodness.
